Ten Reasons to Trust God

The air grew thick and dark. Water pelted the car with such force it seemed it would break through the windows any second. Foreign objects pounded on the roof and doors, even pushing the side mirrors flat against the vehicle. The howling wind rocked the car back and forth. How much longer could they survive? It seemed that it would never end.

Although the little ones slept soundly, the five-year old began to cry. “Mommy, I’m scared! I need to get out!”

Out of the car? In the midst of such turbulence? That would do no good. Then the elements would hurl all their power against her little body. There would be no protection.

While the child was terrified, Mother knew that this situation truly presented no danger to any of the family. They were simply getting the car washed.

“No, sweetie,” her mother replied. “You are safe and secure here with me. Let’s ask Jesus to calm your heart and help you trust Him. Then we can sing a song together.”

Have you ever felt frightened by your circumstances? Facing the unknown, you worry and fret as you wonder how you will ever survive. You don’t know what to expect, so everything seems scary.

Beloved one, your heavenly Father sees you. He knows the storm, be it real or imagined. He knows your frailty, that you are but dust. And He will care for you. How can you be sure that this is so? Find your confidence in His Word. Every fear you face, every danger you encounter, every unknown trial that threatens to overwhelm you…God is with you. And what is the antidote for fear? Trust - in the only One Who can help.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.” (Psalm 56:3)

Trust in God Who is everlasting.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee; because He trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever; for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” (Isaiah 26:3-4)

Trust in God Who created the universe.

“To whom then will ye liken Me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold Who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth.” (Isaiah 40:25-26)

Trust in God Who created you.

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)

Trust in God Who hears your prayers.

“As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.” (Psalm 55:16-17)

Trust in God Who will not forsake you.

“And they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee: for Thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee.” (Psalm 9:10)

Trust in God Who has power over our enemies.

“And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with Thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on Thee, and in Thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, Thou art our God; let not man prevail against Thee.” (II Chronicles 14:3)

Trust in God Who has power over nature.

“And [Jesus] arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” (Mark 4:39-41)

Trust in God Who has power over death.

“But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in Whom we trust that He will yet deliver us;” (II Corinthians 1:9-10)

Trust in God Who is your salvation.

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2)

Trust in God, even when you cannot see what He is doing.

“Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” (Job 13:15a)

Each of us faces trials at some point in life. While I may not know your specific situation, I do know the God Who has promised to never leave you nor forsake you, the God Who numbers the hairs on your head, the God Who is in control of your life. Won’t you trust Him through this storm?
