Suzie’s Spring

In keeping with the theme of Jesus’ Resurrection, as well as with my goal to reach Christian ladies of all ages, today’s article by Jarmila Del Boccio is geared toward children. The littlest ladies need to know about the power of God’s Word in our lives, too! I pray that you will share this sweet story with your daughters, granddaughters, nieces, students, and so on. Let’s start even now pouring the Truth into these young hearts and minds.

IS IT HERE YET?

by Jarm Del Boccio

Suzie couldn't wait for Spring. Every day she asked her Mom a question.

“Will Spring be here soon, Mama?”

"Not until the bluebells push through the earth, Sweetheart."

The next day she asked, "Today? Is it today?"

"No, dear. The robins have not come home to sing. Maybe tomorrow."

Tomorrow arrived, but not the Spring.

"Is it here?"

"Not yet, honey. Be patient! The buds of the forsythia bush have not begun to bloom."

"I can't wait!" said Suzie to her mother. "Is it time to take out the Easter story eggs?

"Pretty soon!" encouraged Mama.

Suzie crossed off the days on her little calendar. She waited two days before she asked again.

This time, she was sure it was time.

"Now, Mama? Is it Spring?"

"I'm very sorry bunny-kins, but no. The robins have not arrived at our bird feeder."

Suzie was not happy. In fact, she was cross.

"I just can't wait another minute!" She threw her calendar on the floor.

"Darling, have a seat here on my lap. I want to tell you something."

Suzie obeyed, but not with a happy heart.

Mama said, "Remember when we talked the other day about Jesus, and His special work on the cross for us?"

"Yeeaaaahh. And we made those res...res..resurr..."

"Resurrection cookies. That's right! Remember how, after we put them in the oven at a very low temperature, we taped the oven shut?"

"You let me do that, Mama!"

"That's right. And the oven was like the tomb where Jesus was laid after they took him down from the cross. Do you remember why we taped it shut?”

"'Cause we couldn't open it for three days?"

"Yes! And why couldn't we open it?"

"Because Jesus stayed in the tomb for three days."

"Good, Suzie! Now, when we opened the oven three days later, took out the cookies, and bit into them, what did we discover?"

"I know, I know! They were empty inside — there was a hole in the middle."

"Exactly!"

"Just like Jesus' tomb. Empty!" Susie jumped up and swirled around the room.

"Yes. Jesus came back to life again, just like He promised, so those who believed could someday live with Him in heaven. He finished the work God His Father gave him to do."

"But when is Spring coming?"

"Just at the right time, Dear. When new life comes, Spring will begin!

Suzie looked out the window. There, peeking out from the snow, was a tiny green shoot.

That’s when she knew for sure Spring was just around the corner.
